The Syrian regime and its allies have continued to target eastern Ghouta in Rif Dimashq despite the resolution 2041, which had been issued by the Security Council on February 24 and called for an immediate ceasefire for 30 days to facilitate the humanitarian operations and to open all paths in order to deliver the necessary aids to the besieged and wounded people in the region. The continued bombardment by the Syrian regime has indeed caused hundreds of civilian casualties.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Monitor and the Syrian Network for Human Rights, the Syrian regime forces, together with Russian forces, have committed dozens of massacres and unlawful killings since February 24 till the evening of March 11.
The two organizations documented the death of at least 524 civilians, including 83 children, 55 women, 3 medical staff and 5 civil defense staff, while at least 20 civilians were massacred, in addition to 172 barrel bombs dropped by the regime’s helicopters.
Both organizations pointed out that the attacks have also targeted the vital centres in eastern Ghouta, for at least nine incidents of aggression targeting these centres have been recorded so far.
According to World Health Organization’s spokesman, Tariq Yasarevich, around 1,000 people are in need of medical evacuation, including nearly 700 people who need urgent treatment, which is made impossible due to siege imposed on the city.
