Hussam's life changed after his detention by the Syrian regime forces, he was a student of Physics at Damascus University, and became a detainee, then a soldier in the ranks of the regime, before he started his new way of life.

He, the son of Douma in Damascus countryside, decided to dissent from the regime’s army, "whatever it costs", fled to the eastern Ghouta in Damascus countryside, and joined the ranks of the armed opposition there.

"From college student to a mortar thrower", says Hossam, explaining his situation, but he did not give up, and remained insistent that he would return to his natural place.

After two years of working with the armed opposition, he was able to work as a teacher in a school in Douma, due to lack of teachers’ cadres, where the reliance became on the qualified college students, to become teachers for the students of the basic stage.

Despite the difficulties in the education corps there because of the siege by the regime forces, but Hossam, the physics teacher and his colleagues at the school, had a common goal sought to be achieved.
