The play "Deer Sleep" has been launched a few days ago, on the stage "Erwin" at the Lebanese American University of the capital Beirut, within a workshop addresses the Syrian refugee’s situation in Lebanon and the problems of asylum to Europe.
The work director "Lina al-Abiad" said in a telephone interview with Rozana, "The basic dependence was mainly on the simulation of the Syrian reality and conveying the Syrian tragedy, whether what is happening to the reality of the Syrian and the transfer of the Syrian tragedy, where we mentioned in the beginning that the scenes in the play has really happened with the displaced Syrians, and all the characters are real."
On the reason for choosing this title for the play, Abiad explained, "These words “Deer Sleep” are words I’ve read in a text for Samar Yazbek, and the phrase means the people who sleep with their eyes open" pointing out that "the Syrians have been 50 years sleeping open-eyes because of anxiety, while living under the Syrian regime oppression ".
She added: "Now also, and five years after the start of the revolution, the Syrians are sleeping open-eyes, because they now fear that their revolution could be stolen by people has never believe in it or sacrifice for it."
She said "the work heroes are a Coors read several stories, including the personal story of Faraj Bayrakdar , from the texts “My Alienation in Syrian intelligence prisons”, and a voice for the character Yassin Haj Saleh, who writes letters to his hijacked wife, and published it every day on Facebook, these voices we hear are the main heroes in the show.”
Show will go on until the tenth of the month this April, and about the possibility of introducing it in other countries, Lina said: "We will try to continue the show in Beirut, because the work speaks of the Syrian tragedy effectively, and brought the right message to the Lebanese, who are anxious to hear these stories, especially that more than million Syrian refugees live in Lebanon.”
