The conflict parties in Syria commit all sorts of crimes and violations, according to a recent report by the International Commission of Inquiry. Local and international human rights organizations document such crimes; with a view to hand over those documents to the international courts, or to a special court can be created for the Syrian situation.
"But to refer the file of the crimes committed in the Syria to the International Criminal Court, for example, the documentation is not enough, and must wait for the opening of the political mechanism for that, although documentation is a sensitive and important stage, considering that Syria has not signed the Rome Statute of the Declaration, therefore, Syria is not a member of the ICC." says lawyer Faek Hawijah to the Syrian program "in the balance".
How can the file of the crimes committed by the conflict parties be converted to the international courts?
How can criminals be accountable?
"Warlords in Syria today, may turn into princes of peace in the next stage, and we should expect that, and it had happened in Lebanon after the civil war, when the princes of Lebanese civil war became the princes of politics, and formed the first legitimate government in Lebanon after (Taef) agreement”, adds Hawijah.
Faek Hawijah a lawyer and human rights activist, and a founding member of equal citizenship status, and the representative of the office in an alliance of civil society organizations "contactless", he also works with "ESCWA" in the national agenda for Syria's future program, and the coordinator for the legislature sector, and the rule of law.
