How Do Deraans Secure Their Internet Access?

Reports | 25 05 2020

The people of Deraa largely depend on the Internet as a means of communicating with relatives and loved ones—whether outside or even inside Syria. Problems related to network coverage, however, have meanwhile made it crucial to find solutions to secure an internet connection.

Many residents of the southern Deraa countryside rely on Jordanian networks in telecommunications, and the Internet; whereas the eastern countryside remains dependent on Syrian networks, and targets the coverage Towers in [neighboring] Suweida.

Distance adversely affects the signal. Some were therefore forced to find innovative solutions to boost the signal; through positioning an internet server on the satellite receiver dish atop their home—pointed in the direction of either Suweida or Jordan—to boost the signal. This method is also being used in cafés, as well!

Many parties, it seems, have consequently made use of primitive and simple tools, to secure their internet usage; particularly in southern Syria—already deprived as it is of any adequate capabilities or support!
