Reports | 25 05 2020

The Syrian Network for Human Rights [SNHR] in a report issued Sunday, announced that it had documented the deaths of 1771 people at the hands of warring parties in Syria, during the past month of October.

According to the report, "the Syrian regime's army, and militias loyal thereto, are responsible for killing 1284 people comprising 793 civilians—including 158 children and 153 women; 99 people under torture; and 491 armed militants. The number of people—both civilian and military—killed due to Russian attacks was 276 people.”

The report mentions, on the other hand, that "the number of victims killed at the hands of militant groups reached 77 people, 71 of whom were killed by Daesh [ISIS]—comprising 18 fighters from militant opposition factions, and 53 civilians including three children, and one person killed under torture," while "the Al-Nusra Front [NF] militia caused the killing of five armed militants and one civilian."

The SNHR report documents "the killing of 10 civilians at the hands of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units Militia [YPG], comprising three children and two women;” while "45 civilians were killed, including 13 children and 11 women at the hands of members of the armed opposition groups.” Whereas "the international coalition forces have caused the killing of one civilian."

The report also mentions "the documentation of the deaths of 28 armed militants, and 50 civilians—including eight children and nine women—either by drowning in migration boats; or by explosives, the identity of the perpetrators of which the SNHR was unable to confirm—or at the hands of armed groups unknown to the SNHR."

The SNHR stresses that "the regime's army and Shabeeha thugs militia have violated the provisions of international human rights law protecting the right to life. In addition, there are dozens of cases in which all the elements of war-related murder crimes are present. Evidence and proofs indicate that more than 90% of large as well as individual attacks, have been directed against civilians and civilian properties."
