Syria is the country with the highest number of journalists killed in the world today. There are various reasons for the death of journalists—ranging from coming under direct fire on the basis of revenge; as a result of military clashes and fighting between the armed parties to the conflict; or due to the dangerous nature of the work performed by the journalist, leading to his death.
In Syria, 85% of local journalists and citizen-journalists were killed; while the other 15% represented foreign journalists—most of them Europeans.
