One of those interviewed by Rozana in the Idlib countryside adds "We receive relief. But if what you do not have Wasta [connections] no help will reach you."
Publicity and promoting the relief organization's name in the media, seems to be the only target of organizations as per the local residents; while, according to a relief organization staff member, they are devoted to the relatives of managers' or administrators' of these organizations.
Ahmed, a local resident, tells Rozana: "Some of the in the villages are invited to Ramadan banquets; but no children or women... The whole aim is a photo-op and a publicity stunt to obtain more support."
Wael believes that some organizations are affiliated to this or that military faction, and therefore do not help those not in concert with their political and military agenda. A worker in one relief organization confirms that "Aid is distributed in a village based on statistics provided by one single person from the village or the region. Consequently, many needy people are deprived of aid that they deserve." The worker adds: "The basic task is photo-ops and social networking pages publicity."
