"Ard Al-Hamra:" Aleppo's Most Devastated and Impoverished Neighborhood!

Reports | 25 05 2020

Umm Ibrahim was forced to remain, with her family, in the Ard Al-Hamra neighborhood of Aleppo. The population of this neighborhood, controlled by the opposition, suffers a precarious humanitarian situation, in light of continuous bombing by regime forces for two years that has levelled crica 500 houses, three schools, and two mosques, reducing them to piles of rubble.

Umm Ibrahim's dire straits and weak income, added to the death of the sole breadwinner at the hands of ISIS four months ago; have conspired to prevent her from moving to a safer neighborhood. Umm Ibrahim has ten children, four of whom have special needs and do not receive the necessary medical care.

Umm Ibrahim's family situation is far from being unique. Most those living in the Ard Al-Hamra neighborhood suffer from extreme poverty, as relief agencies offer very little assistance to the 390 families still living in Ard Al-Hamraas per Abu Mahmoud Al-Aous, Head of the Local neighborhood Council.
