Love has its limits in Syria. These new limits come on top of the existing limitations—the traditional considerations of sectarianism and economic disparities, which usually constitute the obstacles some lovers have to overcome. Nowadays, lovers have to contend with being strewn across two sides of different countries' bprders; as the political boundaries have become insurmountable with the continually deteriorating situation in Syria.
It has been three and a half years now, since Qusay and his fiancee—living outside Syria—last met. He was unable to obtain a passport for himself, due to "security reasons."
The young man, a Faculty of Law graduate, has not given up hope of meeting his lover. He tells Rozana: "I have not yet reached desperation. I am still waiting for my passport."
