FORTY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO SURVEY SYRIANS' OPINIONS

Reports | 25 05 2020

They began their work exploring the views of the Syrians of the "Islamic State" [ISIS]. They express their hope in conducting other surveys on topics of interest to Syrians, to be submitted to news agencies, despite the many risks they encounter in the conduct of their work.

They are forty young Syrians, who studied Mathematical Statistics. They set off, entirely self-motivated and with limited support, and founded an organization to conduct periodical polls and surveys.

This line of work exposes them at the present to the risk of death or injury as a result of the bombingespecially in the Aleppo countryside. Their work requires them to maintain close proximity to the people surveyed, to collect their opinions. It also requires them to move between Syrian areas, in some cases.

Mahmoud, a member of the organization, explains to Rozana: "Our most important difficulty lies in convincing people of the nature of our work, and of the importance and benefit of gathering information."
