A number of agronomists in Aleppo founded the "Free Seed Multuplication Organization" [FSMO], which attempts to meet farmers' needs of sowing seeds at discounted prices; after the Syrian regime declined to provide agricultural labor supplies for residents ofnthe Aleppan countryside, controlled by the opposition.
Farmer Abu Yassin tells Rozana: "The regime deprived us of our rights as a form of collective punishment, to deter many from participating in the Revolution. Many farmers, therefore, gave up on irrigated crops."
Maan Nasser, FSMO's Director, explains that "this new organization has provided Aleppo countryside farmers with two thousand tons of potato seeds, as well as 1,200 tons of fertilizer, and 6,000 kgs of insecticides and fungicides."
Agronomists, on the other hand, conduct field trips to provide advice and guidance to farmers.
