WINTER: ALEPPO'S COMING NIGHTMARE!

WINTER: ALEPPO'S COMING NIGHTMARE!

Reports | 25 05 2020

Abu Ali from Aleppo is well aware how difficult the winter days, just around the corner, will be; especially that he has six children. His family, much like the majority of other families in the region, is quite large. Securing winter blankets, woolen clothes, and fuel for heating is therefore extremely difficult.

The man tells Rozana: "Our situation is very difficult. Prices rise constantly, and we as Syrians have been suffering for four years from this war, without a job or income. All the people are suffering from poverty," adding: "Winter is at our door. Will we secure the money to pay for food and drink, or to pay for heating fuel? Fuel prices rose with the start of the coalition strikes on ISIS-controlled areas."

Relief Efforts Vary

Many Syrians are confined to an existence dependent on aid provided by relief organizations and associations. There is no work and life here, with continued daily shelling, and poverty reigning over most of the population.

Most relief organizations are trying to prepare for the coming winter, via campaigns launched to offer as much help as possible in these difficult circumstances; particularly in the areas of camps and displacement within Syria, wose people live under crushingly difficult circumstances.

Abu Nizam, Executive Director of the Shabab Saa'ed [Youth, Help] Association, spoke to Rozana about the association's role in the winter.

He explains: "As an association active in the city of Aleppo, we are preparing today to distribute used clothing, which we receive from the outside, as well as new clothing we buy from local factories. We are also preparing for the distribution of heaters with firewood, with a particular interest in keeping school classrooms heated."

The question, therefore, remains on Syrians' lips: How long will this situation remain the same? Will the population be able to withstand the winter cold amid the indiscriminate bombing, which does not differentiate between stone and human?
