Prior to the revolution, Fadi used to sing at weddings which also was a good source of income.
The situation has changed, however, as with a little help from his friends he was able to secure an "organ"—a matter which required considerable effort and research. "After a lot of research and effort, we were finally able to bring the organ from the Azmiran region in the province of Idlib.
I paid twice the actual market price for it, due to the penury in such equipment in the areas outside regime control. I also found out, to my surprise, that it lacked certain sounds and rhythms—which means I had to use it 'as-is.'’’ Several friends actually suggested that Fadi and Hammoud write and produced some revolutionary songs and sell them. But Fadi, however, considers writing revolutionary songs a sort of a hobby and, on the other hand, has no communication with any parties potentially interested in producing their songs.
What truly matters to Fadi now is that he finds a kind of freedom of expression in singing, unlike anything he ever had under the regime’s control.
