In the third episode Donald Hyslop meets with Michel Gasco, musician, performer and filmmaker. He talks about his passion for the oud, the music and culture of the Levant which led him to spend periods of his life living, studying and working in Syria. The field recordings he made during the early 2000s have now become valuable social documents of an intangible heritage much of which has vanished as the country has suffered widespread death, destruction and dislocation during years of conflict. Michael takes us on a fascinating journey of learning and experiences.
Music from Hamza El Din, Ahmad al Hassan, Moslem Rahal, Ghassan Ammouri, Safwan Bahlawan, Orontes.
